What colors does Rhino Shield come in?  Rhino Shield Fan Deck of Colors Rhino Shield is available in 1,500 different colors!  We can mix custom colors, but recommend the fan deck colors because they have been formulated to minimize fading.  Can I put dark colors on vinyl siding?  White Vinyl Painted with A Dark Latex Paint This is a common question.  It is recommended not to go darker than the original siding color by many experts. We recommend that you choose colors from our fan deck that end in either P or T.  These are the tint bases with the most white tint to product lighter colors.  The deep base has very little white tint and the clear base has none at all. Avoid deep and clear base, colors ending with D or C, on vinyl siding as it can absorb heat and cause the siding to warp.  These are typically the lower 3 swatches on each page of the fan deck. Do you do a clear, transparent, or translucent Rhino Shield?  This is another common question from owners of wood sided homes. All of

One of the most frequent questions I get is, “Can I put Rhino Shield on my wood deck?“. Up until now, the answer has been no. Rhino Shield for walls is a smooth coating that is slippery when wet. Not the ideal solution for an outdoor deck.  But now there is a Rhino Shield product formulated especially for wood decks. It also is an elastomeric, ceramic based coating that seals and protects the wood surface for years. The Deck Protect is available in 1,500 colors.  What is The process of restoring my deck? We begin by pressure washing all surfaces to be treated.  We will sand the walking  surfaces of the deck. If fasteners have lifted above the surface we will re-install them and secure any loose boards.  We can make repairs or replace rotted or damaged boards.  We will prepare any other areas in the agreement, like steps, rails, spindles, landings, posts, etc.  Then, Rhino Shield Deck Project is applied in one coat. What are The Benefits to restoring my deck with Deck Protect? I have ha

Nearly half of the people I meet are at the beginning of their journey.  They know that they need to do something to improve the exterior appearance of their home, but there are so many choices.  Which is the best choice for them.  In most cases, they have older Aluminum or vinyl siding and are considering the options.  Should they paint it, coat it with Rhino Shield or replace it with new vinyl or cement board siding. Let’s investigate all of these options based on 3 criteria, Durability, color options, and cost. Durability The paints that they make today are nothing like paints from 20 or 30 years ago.  I like to say, “They have taken out all of the bad stuff that made it good.”  A coat of exterior paint today is expected to last 3 to 5 years. Replacing older siding with new vinyl siding should be thought through very carefully.  If you have aluminum siding that is not badly dented, then replacing it with newer vinyl siding can be a major step backwards.  Like today’s paints, the vi

All information contained in this article is accurate for the Western PA market, at the time of publication, 6/2023.   Factors That Determine the Price of Rhino Shield It is very difficult to give a price for Rhino Shield without making an actual inspection, because there are several factors that affect the price.   The factors that determine price are surface area, amount of detail, access, required preparation, and the substrate.   Let’s look at those. Aluminum Upper Portion   Surface Area   Square footage of surface to be coated has the most direct effect on the cost.   In many cases where the customer is having the eaves, soffit and fascia coated, that area is as much as one of the sides of the house.   Detail  A Victorian style home with extensive scroll décor and 7 colors will cost significantly more than a basic style in 2 colors. Access   How easy is it to get to all the surfaces?  Almost all our work is done from ladders.  Using a 40-foot extension ladder, the hi

What makes Rhino Shield different than paint? _ by Ted Starmack

I'm sure you’ve heard “It’s not paint!” That was the slogan for Rhino Shield for many years. But it doesn’t really tell you much. The fact is, Rhino Shield is so much more than paint, but it’s really in a class by itself. RhinoShield is 8 to 10 times thicker than conventional paint, but it looks like an eggshell finish paint and you can see all of the texture through it. You will not lose any wood grain or design texture that exists there now. It does not contain harmful VOCs, (volatile organic compounds), so it is environmentally safe. In fact it is what’s considered an ultra low VOC material. It is endorsed by the Florida Green Building Coalition. Rhino Shield is Energy Star approved. It provides an R 6.89 insulation factor, which reflects heat inward in the winter and away in the summer.  You save on both heating and cooling. It also has a sound-insulating property, reducing noise coming through the walls. RhinoShield will give your exterior surface a class A fire rating.  Woo
