Can I have Rhino Shield put on my deck? _ by Ted Starmack

One of the most frequent questions I get is, “Can I put Rhino Shield on my wood deck?“. Up until now, the answer has been no. Rhino Shield for walls is a smooth coating that is slippery when wet. Not the ideal solution for an outdoor deck. 

But now there is a Rhino Shield product formulated especially for wood decks. It also is an elastomeric, ceramic based coating that seals and protects the wood surface for years. The Deck Protect is available in 1,500 colors. 

What is The process of restoring my deck?


We begin by pressure washing all surfaces to be treated. 

We will sand the walking  surfaces of the deck. If fasteners have lifted above the surface we will re-install them and secure any loose boards.  We can make repairs or replace rotted or damaged boards. 

We will prepare any other areas in the agreement, like steps, rails, spindles, landings, posts, etc.  Then, Rhino Shield Deck Project is applied in one coat.

I have had customers tell me they are staining their decks as often as once per year. The deck, paints and stains just don’t last very long anymore. In this video, you will see a piece of wood deck board next to a piece of composite deck board.  The wood board has 3 finishes, the original, aged redwood stain, the sanded portion and the part coated with Deck Protect.  Both have been placed under a heat lamp for 90 minutes.  Using an infrared thermometer, you can see the differences in the surface temperature.  The original redwood stain is 94 degrees, The sanded portion is 90 degrees, the Deck Protect surface is 92 degrees and the composite surface is 116 degree.


Deck Protect is available in 1,500 lustrous colors. Multiple colors can be used.
