If you are interested in seeing a Rhino Shield project completed call 888-RHINO41 (888-744-6641).  Ask to see some homes in your neighborhood.  We will provide you with a list of some homes in your area that we have done. But I am willing to bet that most Pittsburghers have already seen a house in Rhino Shield and don’t realize it. Colorful Modern Home as Seen from The Bluff, Looking Across the Liberty Bridge. This house sits about half way up Mt. Washington, just to the fight of the Liberty Tunnels. They had Rhino Shield applied in 2022.   There are several different substrates on this house.  Among them are  wood, masonry, and fiberglass.  We were able to correct all of the issues that the customer was experiencing.  The stucco was cracking and chipping.  The paint on the fiberglass was peeling and the paint on the wood was flaking.   Next time you are heading towards the Liberty Tunnels or on The Boulevard of the Allies, up on the bluff, look

Is Rhino Shield Worth the Premium Price?_by Ted Starmack

Is Rhino Shield Worth the Investment? The answer to this question depends. How long do you plan to stay in your home, and how concerned are you about the appearance of your home? How long you plan to live in your house is important, because Rhino Shield is a long-term solution.  It comes with a 25-year warranty and is designed to last well beyond that. In short, you should never have to paint your house again. Today’s traditional paints last only 4 or 5 years. Though Rhino Shield costs more than traditional paints, in the long run it can result in a very big savings. The second question: Do you intend to keep your home looking like a showplace?  If you want to keep your home looking sharp, your options are to repaint every 4 to 5 years or have Rhino Shield applied.   Let’s assume you plan on living 20 more years in your home. Say the price to coat your home with Rhino Shield is $16,000. The price for traditional paint for your house is $8,800. If you repaint every 5 years, over 20 ye

Does Rhino Shield PA Offer Financing? _by Ted Starmack

Are there any financing options for my Rhino Shield Project? Yes, there are several options available for qualified customers.   We have programs for up to 15 years to keep your payments affordable.   But the most popular option by far is the “12-Months, No Interest, Timeline Credit Card” offered through Dollar Bank.   Dollar Bank 12-Months, No Interest Timeline Credit Car d This program is a credit card with an introductory 0.00% interest rate for the first 12 months.   It offers a credit limit up to $20,000.   What is important to note is that, if the entire balance is not paid off in the 12 months, there is no interest penalty.   You will be able to either make payments on the credit card at that interest rate or roll the balance over to a personal loan at a lower interest rate.   We have a dedicated representative at Dollar Bank who works with our customers.  Her name is Mia Mihelich and her phone number is 724-779-3903.  She will call customers at the eleventh month to discu

Will Rhino Shield PA Coat Only the Trim on My House? _by Ted Starmack

Can I get just the trim on my house coated with Rhino Shield? At Rhino Shield PA we have done several “trim only” projects.  The greatest benefit our clients enjoy is the lasting beauty of the details of their home that will look freshly painted for decades. Trim Only jobs are the least efficient and most labor intensive projects that we undertake.  The reason for this is that we need to go up the ladder to mask and prepare, apply primer, apply the ceramic top coat, and remove the masking.  That is 4 trips up the ladder and each time reaching only about 3 feet of area. According to our customers, the end result is well worth the investment.  One comment that I frequently hear is that the gray streaks on their gutters are gone and don’t reappear on Rhino Shield. The cost of a trim-only job ranges widely, depending upon several factors.  Among those are the surface square footage, the absorption rate of the material being treated, the condition of the surface, and access.  Prices have

How Does Rhino Shield Perform on Cedar?_by Ted Starmack

Will Rhino Shield Adhere to Cedar Exterior Wood? Many people have expressed concerns about coating cedar wood because cedar does not hold paint very well.   Home with T1-11 Siding I can assure you that Rhino Shield will adhere to cedar, be it lap boards, T1-11, or cedar shakes.  We do use a different primer that is formulated to bond to the wood and not be repelled by the oils in the cedar.  The application will carry the same 25-year warranty against any flaking , chipping, cracking, or peeling. Will Rhino Shield Keep Out the Woodpeckers? Woodpeckers can do a great deal of damage to a home.  They are usually attracted by a food source.  There are often grubs or wood boring bee larva in the wood and the woodpeckers are there to enjoy the buffet.  Once they have created a hole between the size of a golf ball and a baseball there is enough room for nesting. How we deal with this is to fill all the woodpecker and insect holes with our resin.  Once the Rhino Shield is applied and cured,

Can Rhino Shield be Applied to Brick or Stucco? _by Ted Stamack

I have heard that you should never paint bricks, what about that? Spalling Bricks with Traditional Paint Rhino Shield is safe for masonry applications like brick, concrete blocks, and stucco.  The problem with painting bricks in the past has been that the material used was not “breathable”.  It formed a vapor barrier that prevented moisture from escaping through it.  This would lead to a buildup of moisture right behind the surface.   Most of the time a house radiates heat but at around 10 or 12 degrees the cold can cause the moisture in the saturated bricks to freeze.  This can cause severe damage.  Rhino Shield is not a vapor barrier. Although it is waterproof and can withstand over 100 mph wind-driven rain, it will allow moisture to evaporate through the membrane.  This will prevent damage, even at the chimney where the bricks are most vulnerable. Will I lose the look of the texture of the brick? It is true that Rhino Shield cures at a thickness of 8 to 10 coats of traditional paint
